Competition Performances

The International Clarinet Competition consists of more rounds. The Baby and the first category have only one round, the second category consists of two rounds and the third category consists of three rounds. No more than 12 contestants can advance to the second round and no more than 5 contestants can advance to the third round. All participants of all categories will receive the official participation-diploma.

The order of all rounds of all categories is determined by the official rules of the organizer (CCA). The participants of the 2nd and 3rd will play obligatory pieces and in 2nd and 3rd round will be given the choice of the selected free repertoire list pieces. Participants in the Baby and the first category can play free choice pieces.

Duration of the performance is determined by following scheme:

Baby category

1st round – up to10 minutes

1st category

1st round – up to 10 minutes
2nd category

1st round – up to 12 minutes

2nd round – up to 15 minutes
3rd category

1st round – up to 12 minutes
2nd round – up to 15 minutes
3rd round – up to 20 minutes

 

The jury can interrupt the performance of all participants of all categories if the official time limit is over.

Competition repertoire

Baby category

Free choice pieces

Participants will prepare one or more selectable pieces in duration up to 10 minutes. Pieces selected by the participant have to be filled in the application form. Both original clarinet pieces and transcriptions for clarinet and piano are accepted.

1st category

Free choice pieces

Participants will prepare one or more selectable pieces in duration up to 10 minutes. Pieces selected by the participant have to be filled in the application form. Both original clarinet pieces and transcriptions for clarinet and piano are accepted.

2nd category

1st round

  • F. V. Krommer - Koncert Es dur pro klarinet a orchestr, op.36, 1. movement Allegro - this piece has to be played by memory
  • M. Arnold – Fantasy for clarinet op. 87 solo

2nd round                                                         

  • C.M. Weber Concertino Es dur for clarinet and orchestra, op. 26 – this piece has to be played by memory
  • One piece from the following repertoir list:
    1. F. Poulenc - Sonata for clarinet and piano
    2. B. Martinů  - Sonatina for clarinet and piano
    3. L. Bernstein - Sonata for clarinet and piano

3rd category

1st round

  • C. Debussy - Rapsody for clarinet and piano – this piece has to be played by memory
  • C. M. Weber - Clarinet Concerto No 2, E-flat major op.74, III. mvt. Alla Polaca

2nd round

  • J. Brahms - Sonata Es dur for clarinet and piano, op. 120, 1st movement
  • One piece of the following:
    1. Luciano Berio - Sequenza No.IX for clarinet solo
    2. Edison Denissow – Sonata for clarinet solo
    3. Franco Donatoni – Clair for clarinet solo
    4. Jörg Widmann – Fantasie for clarinet solo
    5. Tiberiu Olah – Sonata for clarinet solo
    6. Valentino Bucchi – Concerto for clarinet solo

3rd round - Finale

  • W.A. Mozart - Concert A dur for clarinet and orchestra, K 622, 1st movement – this piece has to be played by memory.
  • J. Francaix – Theme and variations
